Good evening y’all!
First and foremost, I want to publicly thank each and every last one of you who has found it in your heart to support this mission to get masks out to the people on the front lines in our community. Your financial and material support has made the continuation of this endeavor possible. I promise to keep making these as long as the needs is there, and I have the supply. I have been so blessed and humbled by your generosity.
Progress Report: We have gotten 154 masks out into our local community in less than two weeks!
It may not seem like a whole lot, but we have a single machine and are putting out a durable, complex three layer + filter mask. It is my hope that these masks will make it through the mess of COVID-19, and continue to be used in the future to help contain the flu and cold season.
Concerns about vacuum filters…
On April 1st, a doctor in the UK made the claim that vacuum cleaner bags contain fiberglass. That doctor has all but retracted their video as the claim has already been swiftly debunked. Still, that doesn’t stop people from spreading the rumor: Vacuum filters are not made with fiberglass. Here is a demonstration for those who are more curious. EnviroCare, the company whose bags I am using, has also made a statement claiming their bags do not contain fiberglass and recommend their usage as a last resort. Either way, if you’re uncomfortable with our choice of filter you can replace it with something you’re more comfortable with. That is a huge bonus of the pocket mask!
Alternative filter ideas you can use:
- Dish towels
- Pillow cases
- 100% cotton t-shirt
